 (SRC#1961) BUDDY's  Story
BUDDY with this unique identification number: (SRC#1960) came into SRC care on June 9, 2018 and is being  prepared for adoption by a foster family who have gone thru our approval process.  His foster parents have prepared this evaluation for him  and are continuing to help prepare him for adoption.  He is a great dog and will be a wonderful addition to any approved adoptive parent home so please download your application today and begin our approval process which consists of an application, vet reference and an informal home visit -- when all of this is approved you will be put in touch with Buddy's foster parents to discuss him and meet him if you wish then then adoption Buddy.  We at SRC just want Buddy to have that loving home he  deserves.
Here is his evaluation prepared by his foster family:
Buddy is a great companion and will keep himself occupied for most of the day; loves to lay around and does well in a crate if you have to leave for a few hours. He does want to play every once in a while but stays pretty calm; loves balls and squeaky plush toys. Since he loves to lay down most of the day, we try to keep him active through walks, taking him to the dog park, going hiking, and playing with him throughout the week; he is currently slightly overweight so activity is important for him as well as keeping track of his diet as he will try to steal more food from another bowl. He loves our walks and will get excited; barks a little and does very well listening while walking on a leash. Sometimes when we pick him up or he plays, he does growl a little but curbs the behavior when we give him a firm stop or no. We noticed he mostly growls quietly if he is bothered after a long walk or vigorous activity when he is trying to rest. We havent known him to snap  or bite in these times, but its best for him to be left alone to rest for a little while.  After a few days, he settled in nicely and started snuggling up to us, playing a bit more, and interacted more with our own schnauzer. The only times he barks is when were about to go on a walk (excited) or sees or hears something suspicious suddenly; regularly quiet though throughout the day. He loves car rides and is calm during the ride, but will get very excited upon getting out so make sure the leash is ready!  He loves to be petted/scratched behind the ears and belly by adults and children. Does very well in a Vet office; stays calm and lets the Dr. check him and give shots. His nails are very long due to not being kept up well; his quick is long so it will take time to reduce the length. Also, since his nails are long, his Dew Claw on his left front paw can get sore from being caught. Be observant  using towels,  or during play. If this happens he will wimper quietly and lick his paw. We have found that putting an ice pack on his Dew Claw for about 45sec-1min helps numb the soreness a bit. Also, we bandaged it LIGHTLY for a few days to keep it from happening again and for the soreness to cease and he was fine. After that, he will immediately go to his crate. Just give him time to rest and adapt to the bandage and he will go back to normal. We can provide the bandage to know what it looks like.  It was stated by his rescuer that he was afraid of water but we took him to a creek and he didnt have any abnormal reactions; was calm and went in the water on his own. Additionally, we gave him a bath and he did not react in any negative way; was very calm and let us clean him. Hes calm when meeting new people and our 6 year niece got along great with him. He has a sweet disposition and loves to rest right beside you.
RECOMMENDATIONS FROM FOSTER CAREGIVER:
Give him time to settle in, watch his food intake, and make sure to exercise him regularly to help him with his weight. Continue to teach him new tricks and train him to let you know he needs to go outside; he currently walks over to the door and stands there quietly. Also, he sleeps at night in a crate. That seems to be more comfortable for him.  Positive reinforcement is the best for him. If he growls, firm one words do best. Much genuine love and nurturing is the best way for him to learn to trust you and works wonders in him being obedient. A healthy balance of exercise and rest keeps him happy. If you know your going for a long walk or even at bath time, please bandage his Dew Claw so it does not get caught during the process. It only makes for him being happier and not in pain. It goes on and off quite easily. He is an awesome addition to the family! He will melt your heart and be very good to you if you are good to him.

When ready for adoption, this canine will have been evaluated for at least two weeks by loving SRC foster parents who will be able to give the adoptive parents  their opinion about the demeanor of the family companion  prior to the adoptive parents   finalizing   their adoption of this canine.  All our SRC volunteers strive to do this for the well-being of their rescued canine and to assure a successful adoption. It is our worthy mission to assure that each canine rescued by SRC is placed in a loving, stable and permanent home whose family members will treat it as a beloved member of their immediate family. We are prepared to assure that all of  our rescued dogs are in great homes or we will reclaim them if necessary.
SRCs rescued dogs are  placed in foster homes throughout NC, SC, TN, and VA until they are adopted. These same states are SRC's approved adoption areas so please do not apply unless you live in one of these states. You must be willing to drive to the dog's foster home in order to adopt the canine. The location of each dog is listed at the bottom of its bio.
BEFORE meeting an SRC dog, you must be approved to adopt by our Placement Team. Our downloadable Adoption Application is on our web site at   /_files/SRC_APP_082013.doc     and may be submitted via email or fax (1-). You may request an Adoption Application to email address:  adoptions@schnauzerrescueofthecarolinas.org
Upon receipt of your application, a vet reference check will be done and if the vet check is satisfactory then a home visit will be done. The entire process may take up to seven days, depending on your location and the number of applications being processed at that time.
Please plan on welcoming your new dog into your home within two weeks after approval. We cannot hold dogs because this limits our intake of others in need; SRC adopts them out on a first-come, first-serve basis based on a completed approved adoption process. If you are unable to accept your adopted dog within this time frame then SRC will go to the next approval and place with someone able to give the rescue a home within the proper time frame.
SRC does not ordinarily adopt its dogs to families with children under ten years of age. Exceptions are sometimes made on a case by case basis but only when the dog has been raised with children and the children are very respectful of animals.  This is for the protection of the dogs and for the protection of the children.
Procedures will be explained to you at the time of approval regarding donation and contract. Your donation is made in honor of the adoption of your new family companion and is never a purchase of an animal.  This tax deductible donation goes forward to help incoming rescued dogs. Our average total expense per dog includes but is not limited to the list of  expenses shown below.

SRC  wants to thank you for your interest in our rescued dogs. We put our heart and souls into saving their lives.  Often the medical expense, time and effort expended to help these dogs, far outweighs the minimal donation requested to adopt these innocent ones.  Please understand SRC is limited in the number of dogs in our safe haven and if you are not selected to adopt one of them, it is not a reflection on your ability to provide a good home for a canine, simply our lack of ability to provide for the overwhelming demand from applicants.  SRC urges you to pursue rescue -- it is definitely a worthy mission even if you do not adopt from SRC.
